one more miranda july tidbit for today (via smartsandcrafts)

i had the extreme pleasure of attending a panel discussion last night at ybca. the topic was "doing well by doing good". the panelists were emory douglas, josh greene and miranda july. hearng about the grants that josh and miranda have set up via their respective websites was particularly exciting. check them out here and here.

i would have liked to have seen miranda later that evening at
modern times for her book reading, but when i walked by it was too crowded to even get inside the store.

(ps- i took great pleasure in seeing that miranda matched her book covers!)

i'm a diehard fan of pretty much everything moleskine. i used the sketchbooks and pocket weekly calendars for years then graduated to the large daily calendars as my life got more hectic. this morning i got a nice little package with the latest edition to my collection. now i want one for every city...

another trip to add to the list of places to visit. the lightning field by walter de maria.

heath ceramics open studios was this last sunday. everything about heath is pretty incredible. from the history of the factory to the new owners. robin petravic (one half of the wonderful husband and wife team that rekindled heath) gave us our tour. i was suprised to learn how holistic heath's process is- edith heath even worked with a ucb chemistry professor to develop her own recipe for the clay that's used to this day.

unlike the usual weekend tour, this weekend they had live demonstrations and a little station where we were able to paint our own heath tiles! the seconds store is a real score as well. i took home a lovely set of mugs and a pitcher. my collection is slowly growing...a few more photos of the factory here.

if you're in the bay area, i wouldn't miss the heath ceramics open studio this weekend. remember this home? everything in the factory store is an additional 15% off.

oh, and another exhibit i'd see if i were in new york anytime in the next few months. featured in the ny times home
section today.

amber posted about photographer jeremy harris as part of her new "pimp my friends" category. i tried to pick a just a few photos to post but i went a bit overboard as i couldn't choose. many more found here. i love the textures and spots of color with neutrals. the first peeling paint photos remind me of frank thiel's work.
